‘After the Hunt’ Trailer: Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, and Andrew Garfield Clash in Luca Guadagnino’s Tense Psychological Thriller

The first trailer has been released for After the Hunt, the latest psychological thriller from director Luca Guadagnino, known for acclaimed films like Call Me by Your Name and Challengers. The highly anticipated film stars Academy Award winner Julia Roberts, alongside rising star Ayo Edebiri and Andrew Garfield.

A Story of Accusation and Privilege in Academia

Set within the intense environment of a prestigious university, After the Hunt is a psychological thriller that puts a professor, Alma Orloff (Julia Roberts), at a personal and professional crossroads. Her life takes a turn when her most promising student (Ayo Edebiri) accuses a popular colleague (Andrew Garfield) of assault.

The accused professor, however, fires back, claiming the allegation is a fabrication, retaliating after the student was called out for plagiarism. The central conflict forces a difficult question: Who should be believed? What is the truth? The trailer hints at a dense narrative exploring themes of privilege in higher education and the generational divide, promising a story that will challenge the audience’s moral compass. The plot thickens as the accusation threatens to unearth a dark secret from Alma’s own past, adding another layer of complexity to the unfolding events.

An All-Star Cast and Acclaimed Creative Team Assemble

Joining Julia Roberts is a stellar cast, including one of today’s most sought-after actors, Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), and the versatile Andrew Garfield. The ensemble is further strengthened by veteran actors Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny, who reunite with Guadagnino following their collaboration on Bones and All.

The film is helmed by the visionary Italian director Luca Guadagnino, from a debut script by Nora Garrett. The score, poised to deliver another layer of tension, is composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who previously worked with the director on Challengers and the upcoming Queer.

Guadagnino on “Career-Best Performance” and “Provocative Story”

Luca Guadagnino described the film as “very timely for where we are, the divisions in our society, and the polarization of opinions.” He emphasized the film’s thematic core, stating, “It’s a story about what happens in academia between the youth and the older generation, and the notion of consent. It’s very provocative, but not in a silly way. In a very, very lucid way.”

The director also lauded his lead actress, calling Julia Roberts’s work “the best performance of her career.”

Andrew Garfield, who had long wished to work with Guadagnino, praised the director as a “radical artist” and “a living master,” adding that being directed by him was “a dream.”
