What is ‘Record of Ragnarok’?

Record of Ragnarok began as a hit manga series in Monthly Comic Zenon (art by Azychika, story by Shinya Umemura, and composition by Takumi Fukui), with a cumulative circulation of over 18 million copies. The series has garnered critical acclaim, winning numerous awards, including a spot in the “Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2019” guide for male readers.

Its anime adaptation has achieved massive international success. Season 2, which premiered globally on Netflix in January 2023, surpassed the popularity of its predecessor, ranking in the weekly global top 10 in 84 countries. It stands as a premier battle entertainment franchise with a dedicated worldwide fanbase.

Synopsis

Every 1,000 years, the gods of the world convene at the “Council of Valhalla” to decide the fate of humanity. When they decree that mankind must face its end, the Valkyrie Brunhilde objects, proposing a final battle: Ragnarok. This ultimate tournament pits 13 of history’s greatest human champions against 13 of the most powerful gods in one-on-one combat. Can humanity transcend its creators and prevent the apocalypse? The epic struggle begins now.

Exhibition Highlights and Structure

The venue will be organized into three distinct chapters, offering a multi-faceted experience that explores the series’ worldview, showcases rare production materials, and presents the unique stamp collaboration.

Chapter 1: Welcome to the World of ‘Record of Ragnarok’

This introductory area immerses visitors in the series by recapping the story and characters from the anime. A special theater will feature dynamic footage, while also offering a sneak peek at the highlights of the upcoming third season.

  • Battle history from Seasons 1 & 2
  • Introduction to the highlights of Season 3

Chapter 2: Ragnarok – Messages from the Arena

This section brings to life the powerful words and philosophies of the characters through symbolic displays. It also provides a behind-the-scenes look at the animation process with an exhibit of key frames, concept art, and other production materials. A special feature will be a “stamp mosaic” artwork depicting Season 3’s Hades and Qin Shi Huang.

This allows for a deeper appreciation of history and mythology by comparing these depictions with their anime counterparts. Furthermore, the “Embossing Morse Telegraph,” a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan, will be on special display to evoke the late 19th-century world of characters like Jack the Ripper and Okita Souji, highlighting the era’s key infrastructures of telegraphy and mail.

  • The world’s most formidable champions on stamps
  • A glimpse into the 19th century (Jack the Ripper’s London and Okita Souji’s Kyoto)
