The beloved novel and manga series Oni no Hanayome (The Ogre’s Bride), which has sold over 5.8 million copies, is officially receiving a highly anticipated TV anime adaptation. The series is slated for a 2026 broadcast premiere. Saori Hayami and Yuichiro Umehara have been cast in the lead roles of Yuzuko Shinonome and Reiya Kiryuin, respectively. A teaser promotional video and a newly illustrated visual have also been released.

‘The Ogre’s Bride’ Gets Long-Awaited TV Anime, Premiering in 2026
Starts Publishing has confirmed that a TV anime adaptation of its popular series, Oni no Hanayome, is set to air in 2026. The story is a Japanese-style supernatural Cinderella tale set in a world where humans and ayakashi (spirits) coexist. The plot follows Yuzuko, a young girl living a life of misfortune, who is discovered by Reiya, an oni (orga) standing at the pinnacle of the ayakashi world.
The original work has garnered immense support from fans, winning the Grand Prize at the “Comic Seymour Everybody’s Choice!! E-book Award 2023,” ranking first for two consecutive years in the Shojo Comic category of the “Comic Seymour Annual Ranking,” and securing third place at the “7th Everybody’s Choice TSUTAYA Comic Award.”
The latest details, including a teaser PV, the first studio-illustrated visual, main staff, and lead cast, were unveiled during the “Aniplex Online Fest 2025” stream on September 13th.
Saori Hayami and Yuichiro Umehara Lead the Cast! Comments Arrive
Yuzuko Shinonome, voiced by Saori Hayami Saori Hayami will portray the heroine, Yuzuko Shinonome, an ordinary girl who grew up without love from her family.

Reiya Kiryuin, voiced by Yuichiro Umehara Yuichiro Umehara will take on the role of Reiya Kiryuin, the next head of the oni clan, the most powerful of all ayakashi.

The newly released teaser PV features the first reveal of the characters’ voices, heightening anticipation for the story the two will weave together.
Animation Production by Colored Pencil Animation Japan
The animation will be handled by Colored Pencil Animation Japan. An accomplished team has been assembled, including Kazuhito Omiya as Director, Yumi Kamakura for Series Composition, and Masaru Yokoyama composing the music. The unveiled teaser visual was newly drawn by the studio, beautifully depicting the fateful encounter between Yuzuko and Reiya.
