TV Anime Adaptation Fuels Explosive Popularity, Surpassing 8 Million Copies in Circulation
The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity tells the “close yet far” coming-of-age story of two students from neighboring schools—a low-ranking boys’ high school and a prestigious girls’ academy. The series has garnered passionate support, especially from younger audiences. Its popularity surged following the anime adaptation, selling approximately 2 million copies in the first two months of its broadcast. A strategic three-consecutive-month release schedule for new volumes further boosted sales, with an additional 500,000 copies sold in the last month alone, pushing the series past the 8 million mark. The momentum continues with the release of Volume 20 on October 9, the final installment of the unprecedented three-month release.
Voice Cast Stars in Special “Thank You” Movie Recapping the Story
A special movie has been released featuring the anime’s lead voice actors, Honoka Inoue (the voice of Kaoruko Waguri) and Yoshinori Nakayama (the voice of Rintaro Tsumugi). The video centers around the iconic line “Arigato” (Thank you), which appears over 250 times in the story. Through the heartfelt interactions between Kaoruko and Rintaro, the movie delivers an emotional look back at their journey. The production takes an unconventional approach for a manga promotion, focusing on a deep, reflective narrative of the story.
Nationwide Newspaper Campaign Features 47 Prefectures with Unique “Flower Language” Designs
In the morning edition of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper on October 9, 2025, a stunning set of 47 different full-page ads was published across the country. Each design is unique to one of Japan’s 47 prefectures, featuring iconic scenes and characters from the series paired with the prefecture’s official flower and its corresponding “hanakotoba” (the Japanese language of flowers). The advertisements also include specially commissioned illustrations by the manga’s creator, Saka Mikami, who added intricate details to the characters’ clothing and hair that were not depicted in the original manga, allowing fans to appreciate the art on a grand scale. All 47 designs are available for viewing on a special website.
