The second episode of the currently airing TV anime, “The Summer Hikaru Died,” premiered its ending theme, “Anata wa Kaibutsu” (You Are a Monster) by TOOBOE, with the creditless version of the sequence now released on YouTube. This ending video focuses on the emotional, pre-incident relationship between the characters Hikaru and Yoshiki, a story not depicted in the main series.

“The Summer Hikaru Died” Creditless Ending Video Released
The newly released ending sequence features a distinctive blend of live-action footage and animation. In a departure from the main series’ youth-horror genre, it presents a moving portrait of Hikaru and Yoshiki’s everyday life and intimate bond before the tragic events.
The video’s creation was sparked by the director’s thought, “I wondered what Yoshiki looked like when he laughed at Hikaru’s funny faces.” Paired with TOOBOE’s emotional track, the sequence brings a striking sense of reality to the two characters.
Starting Monday, July 14th, the opening and ending sequences will be broadcast on outdoor video screens in Shinjuku, Tokyo, for a limited time.

Comments from the Director and Original Creator
In conjunction with the ending’s release, director Ryohei Takeshita and original manga author Mokumokuren have shared their comments.
▼ Ryohei Takeshita (Director) Comment: “In the original manga, Hikaru has a line, ‘Yoshiki won’t laugh at my funny faces!’ This sparked my creative process, making me wonder what Yoshiki looked like when he did laugh at them. I was delighted to be able to depict the relationship between Hikaru and Yoshiki before the incident, set to TOOBOE’s incredibly emotional song.”
▼ Mokumokuren (Original Creator) Comment: “The live-action portions offer a glimpse into the production team’s passionate location scouting, which is just wonderful. The realism is incredible, making you feel as if the two of them truly exist. The song is also a masterpiece; it’s not just melancholic but also has a certain lightness that perfectly expresses the work’s atmosphere.”
