Eminem Documentary ‘Stans’ to Explore Career Through Eyes of Fans With Limited Theatrical Release From August 7

The career of legendary rapper Eminem, also known as Slim Shady, will be the subject of the upcoming documentary film Stans, which is set for a limited four-day theatrical run from August 7 to August 10, 2025.

‘Stans’ Documentary to Be Released in 50 Territories Worldwide

In the United States, the film will be exclusively distributed by major cinema chain AMC Theatres, with a limited engagement in over 135 locations. AMC plans to screen the film at least twice per day. To qualify for awards season consideration, a special one-week run will also be held at the AMC Empire 25 in New York.

International distribution will be handled by Trafalgar Releasing, with a concurrent release planned for approximately 1,600 theaters across 50 territories worldwide, making it highly likely that fans in various regions, including Japan, will be able to experience it in cinemas.

Due to its limited run in the U.S., screenings will not be eligible for AMC’s subscription service, AMC Stubs A-List, or other discount ticket programs.

From “Stan” the Song to “Stan” the Term: Unpacking the Artist-Fan Relationship

The film’s title, Stans, is derived from Eminem’s socially impactful 2000 hit song, “Stan.” The track tragically depicts an obsessive fan’s descent into madness.

The song’s influence was immense, leading to the word “stan” becoming ingrained in popular culture as a term for a “passionate and dedicated fan.” In 2017, it was officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary. Contrary to the unsettling message of the original song, the term is now often used as an affectionate expression of fandom.

Directed by Steven Leckart, the documentary explores “the complex relationship between one of the world’s most private artists and his enormous public persona” through the lens of his most devoted followers.

Produced by Eminem Himself for a Candid Look at Career Highs and Lows

Stans will delve deep into both the triumphs and struggles of Eminem’s career, utilizing a mix of reenactments, rare archival footage, and new interviews.

The film is produced by Eminem (Marshall Mathers) himself, alongside his long-time manager Paul Rosenberg, Stuart Parr, and Antoine Fuqua.

As a rare artist who has won 15 Grammy Awards with countless hits like “Lose Yourself,” “Without Me,” and “Love the Way You Lie,” global attention is focused on how he will reflect on his own career and portray his relationship with the fans who shaped it.
