World’s First Akira Kurosawa Original Poster Collection Revives the Excitement of ‘Seven Samurai’ and ‘Rashomon’

TOKYO – Two Virgins Inc. announced today, August 27, 2025, the release of the Akira Kurosawa Original Film Poster Collection, a world-first compilation featuring the original theatrical posters from all 30 films directed by the legendary Akira Kurosawa. This long-awaited project for film enthusiasts was made possible through the full cooperation of Kurosawa Production, Toho Co., Ltd., and other associated companies.

A World First! Posters from All 30 Directed Films Gathered in One Volume

This poster book is a groundbreaking endeavor, bringing together for the first time the original theatrical release posters from the entire filmography of Akira Kurosawa, known to the world as “Kurosawa the Great.” The collection allows readers to trace the director’s half-century career through its iconic poster art, from his debut feature Sanshiro Sugata (1943) to his final work, Madadayo (1993).

The book features posters from masterpieces that shine brightly in the history of Japanese cinema, including Rashomon, Ikiru, Seven Samurai, The Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo, High and Low, and Red Beard. The excitement and passion that these posters once evoked in audiences at theaters and on street corners are now resurrected in a stunning, large-format (B4 size), full-color presentation. Adding to its value, the collection comes in a deluxe package that includes five B4-sized posters as a special supplement.

As a limited-time offer, select bookstores and the official online shop will distribute a replica of the promotional leaflet created for the initial release of Kurosawa’s directorial debut, Sanshiro Sugata, on March 25, 1943.

This leaflet is an exceedingly rare promotional item, printed in two colors on a folded A4 sheet during a severe wartime paper shortage, making it a document of significant historical value. It contains an overview of the film, including sections on the “Original Story,” “New Director: Akira Kurosawa,” “Cinematography,” and “Cast.” This exclusive bonus is available in limited quantities and will be discontinued once stock runs out. Details on participating retailers can be found on the official website.
